Correctional and Parole Settings
Music therapy can play a transformative role for individuals who are incarcerated or on parole by supporting emotional healing, self-expression, and rehabilitation. Through songwriting, rhythm exercises, and group music-making, participants can explore emotions, build self-awareness, and develop coping strategies in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Music therapy also promotes social skills, reduces stress and aggression, and fosters a sense of identity and hope—key elements in reducing recidivism and supporting successful reintegration into society. Tailored to the needs of each individual or group, music therapy offers a constructive outlet in correctional and transitional settings.
